A door or window is a precision install disguised as a simple swap. The frame has to be plumb on both sides, square at the head, and shimmed solid at every contact point. Cut corners on any of those and the unit rubs, drags, or won't seal. For windows specifically, the rough opening needs to be flashed correctly to keep water out of the wall cavity — the leading cause of soft framing and stucco failure in Northeast Florida. We use a 6-foot level, hardwood shims at every hinge or jamb location, and we check plumb before the slab or sash goes in. Weather sealing is rolled in by hand — not stapled.

We check the existing frame for square, the rough opening for plumb, and the floor for level. We talk through pre-hung vs. slab and write a line-item estimate.

Frame Prep

If the frame is good, we tune it. If it's racked, we pull it and reset. Hardwood shims placed at every hinge location and at the strike.

Hang and Tune

Door hung, hinges adjusted for even reveal, latch aligned with the strike. Three hinges minimum on every door.

Weather Seal

Exterior doors get fresh weatherstripping rolled in by hand and a sweep set tight to the threshold. We test for drafts before we move on.

Why won't my door latch — is it the lock or the door?

It's almost always the strike alignment, hinge depth, or a sagging frame. Locks rarely fail; alignment fails. We diagnose it on the walk-through and fix it the same day in most cases.

Pre-hung or slab — which is right for my opening?

Pre-hung is faster and the frame comes pre-tuned. Slab is sometimes the only option for older homes with non-standard openings. We'll tell you which fits your opening.

Can you install storm doors, French doors, sliders, and pocket doors?

Yes — exterior, interior, screen, storm, French, sliding, and pocket doors. Each has different framing requirements. Pocket doors specifically need a pocket frame; we'll inspect for clearance before we quote.

Do you install replacement windows?

Yes — single-hung, double-hung, sliders, picture, and impact-rated. We measure the rough opening, flash the sill correctly, install the unit plumb and square, and seal the exterior so water can't get behind the siding or stucco.

How do you stop drafts on an exterior door or window?

Fresh weatherstripping at the head and jambs, an adjustable threshold and sweep on doors, and a unit that's plumb so the seal compresses evenly. If you can feel a draft after we leave, we come back and re-tune.

Do you handle hurricane-rated doors and windows?

Yes. Impact-rated units require specific anchors and a specific install procedure to maintain the rating. We follow the manufacturer's instructions exactly — that's what keeps the rating valid in a storm.
